Environ are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of activated carbon for gas cleaning, as well as design and build of complete systems including de watering.

For large installations and requirements Environ have their own fleet of specially adapted articulated trucks which transport and off load carbon in 7.5 metre long vessels which hold 10 tonnes (20 metres³) of activated carbon. These vessels are exchanged on site and the spent media is then discharged at our works, and the vessel refilled. The vessels are manufactured with a stainless steel inner wall and insulated with a mild steel outer casing.
We also manufacture fixed vessels according to customer requirements and these are typically of 2 tonne capacity (4 metres³).
For small engine installations we offer our 500kg vessel which holds (1 metre ³) of carbon.
Siloxanes that are present in the gas cause silica deposits in engines, oil and heat exchangers. This results in higher maintenance costs and increased downtime (less availability).
Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) forms acid in the engine and oil as well as heat exchangers and pipework and residue in the flue gas. This causes erosion and a high degree of wear in the engine with the acid eating way material including engine bearings.
Humidity/Water content Biogas normally has a high moisture content due to the AD process that it is derived from. Landfill Gas can also have a high moisture content depending on site conditions. This moisture condenses and causes corrosion in the systems and engines as well as poor combustion.
- All of these symptoms result in reduced revenues, higher maintenance costs and reduced availability as well as higher exhaust emissions.
Activated carbon comes in different grades to suit specific applications. When we know the specification of the gas we can then suggest the most suited carbon specification or a particular blend. This will virtually eliminate any of the contaminants getting through to the engines. This means that the engines will operate as if they are fuelled by Natural gas. Therefore, the maintenance costs are greatly reduced and availability and revenue generation is increased.
